Mulhouse, France

As I am sitting in a hotel room in Trets, France listening to my son take a shower in the accomodating bathroom of our hotel (www.hotel-valleedelarc.com) I am overwhelmed with how far we have traveled so far on our journey since August 20th. To wit my eldest has been keeping a list of the cities we have stopped in while we have traveled. These are places we have actually gotten out of the vehicle and wandered through, not just driven through,  if not stayed in and explored for a few days' or even for an overnight. Here is a list that my oldest has painstakingly provided me...thanks, Doe <3

Bilbao
Salamanca
Gibraltar
Toledo
Arcos
Zahara
Ronda
Ribodeo
Ibizkarra
Guernica
Lekitio
San Sebastian
Olite
Otour
Dominio
Isso
Lambier
Mutriko
Mendaro
Arrisgotas
La Mancha
Madrid
Consuergo
Tembleo
Perignat Le Sarlieve, France
Milhouse, France
Munich
Milan
Aixe-en-Provence

So excuse me if they all start to run together after a while :)

We are in Trets, as I said, after a whirlwind trip through Europe. We left on Friday morning of last week and drove to  Perignat as simply a means to an end of going to Munich. We stayed in the hotel, it was a lovely hotel, and we moved on to Mulhouse. This was our stopping point after the strain of a long day of driving, and it was a nice way to end the evening. Mulhouse is mostly a town of museums, and after we checked into the hotel we had thirty minutes to check out their Textiles Museum before they closed.

Mulhouse

View from our hotel room onto a park

Quaint little hotel room

Hotel's diningroom. 7 euros for continental breakfast, 12 euros for traditional breakfast

Pretty foods part of the 12 euro meal

Me and my new bff I found lounging in the lobby ;)

Textile Museum. This is an old school method of printing bolts of cloth

stacks of carved wooden blocks used for printing onto plain muslins and cottons. Each block contained a different motif.

Stamping pad examples carved out wood

Printing studio. I was in heaven.

Vintage fabric printing press

Antique cards of union membership for the mills and other notices

Museum of textiles collected over the years. Far too many to list!

Natural plants used in dyeing techniques.

To help clarify, Mulhouse was the stop we did prior to visiting the Strathof Nazi camp on the outskirts of France. We drove from Strathof into Munich and arrived in Munich late that evening. If you want to read this in order, go back to the Strathof post. If you can bear reviewing it at all. :(

Mulhouse was a friendly, warm and charming little village. I am glad we were able to stay there if even for a night.

Mulhouse had one of the most adorable town center plazas I have seen as of yet. Primary colors with lots of gold and bric a brac and frosting. Precious.  *"*

We left Mulhouse early after breakfast and were on the road to Strathof before noon. Lovely little town with charm to spare. Give them a try if you are ever in the Alsace region of France. It's a nice place to visit.... www.bourse.hotel@wanadoo
