THROUGH HIS DEATH PHILLIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN CARRYS THE MESSAGE THAT ADDICTION IS FATAL - PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN HAD BEEN CLEAN AND SOBER FOR 23 YEARS UNTIL 2012 - Phillip Seymour Hoffman came into recovery for alcohol and narcotics when he was 21 years old. He attended meetings for many years.
Clean and sober – and in full possession of his faculties – his work was inspired.
The rest of his story – is common garden variety relapse. Stopped going to meetings. Disconnected himself from recovery.
In early 2012 he began to abuse prescription medications - once having relapsed – after 23 years clean - he dove back into snorting and shooting heroin.
The old recovery slogan is true: While we are sober our disease is in the parking lot doing push-ups - getting stronger -waiting for us to let down our guard - so that it can attempt to kill us once again.
We don't pick up where we left off - we pick up as if we had never stopped.
Phillip Hoffman quickly became unable to function - became reclusive - then recently went into detox – but did not return to his recovery program.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman died from a fatal progressive disease - not a moral failing.

My dear friends – we are given the GIFT of sobriety. Never forget what it is that gets us sober – A Power Greater than ourselves. The first time around – recovery is granted us through Grace and Mercy. When we let go of that gift – we have to work hard to get it back. Hang onto it. Stay. Just stay. ---Gary Kimble
This is to the FoxNews contributor PUNK Richard Grenell on FoxNews this morning:
ReplyDeleteThis WAS 'unexpected'....PSH was sober for *23* years and he relapsed.
I'd hate for you to be judged on mistakes you learned from 23 years ago-die from it-and then say "this was not unexpected". Arrogant ass.
