Being blonde in Northern China

The Chinese people loved to take our pictures.

We chose a cute European-themed restaurant to eat lunch one afternoon and our server sat us outside. We had no idea how often we would be interrrupted.

Beloved was a popular subject to photograph. No one had ever seen a lumberjack before. ;)

When the tool in the pink polo asked to have his picture taken and did 'rabbit ears' over my kids' heads, I stepped in and stopped the fun.

Even when they were unaware they were being memorialized.

The men at this section of the Great Wall were really annoying. They were very loud and aggressive. I felt bad for the women (wives? daughters?) traveling with them.

The kids were energized by the experience.

I had to ask the girls to leave the riverfront in Harbin because they were starting to get swarmed by people, some young men, who were begging to take their picture. The catcalls entirely in Chinese didn't need translation. I would hope they meant something else.

Sometimes we didn't really mind. Like when this sweet little girl who was hiking the Great Wall with her family politely asked to take our picture.

When we sat down for lunch she and her mother and sister joined us. We shared our food and it was utterly delightful.
